Are you ready if the power goes out?
Unexpected power outages can happen at any time for many reasons, like earthquakes, bad weather or line failures which means you may lose power to your household. To keep you safe, it’s really important that you have an emergency back-up plan for when the power is out.
Medical dependency
Is there anyone in your household/premise who relies on electricity for the use of critical medical equipment?
If so, it is important that you give us a call on 0800 IN CONTROL (0800 462 668)
Being medically dependent means that you, or someone in your household, is dependent on mains electricity for
critical medical support, and loss of electricity may result in loss of life or serious harm.
Examples of critical medical equipment include (but are not limited to):
- CPAP machines
- prescription nebulisers
- oxygen machines
- home dialysis treatments
- BiPAP machines
- total parenteral nutrition
- ventilators
- ventricular assistance devices.
If you’ve told us that someone in your household is medically dependent, we’ll put a flag on your account. We’ll
also send you a form for a healthcare provider to complete that confirms the medical dependency.
We’ll be in touch if we become aware of any planned power outages that may affect your property so you can relocate
in advance or be ready with your safety plan.
Vulnerability
Is there anyone in your household/premise who for reasons of age/health/disability would have their health or wellbeing threatened by disconnection of electricity or, are you in financial hardship?
If so, it is important that you give us a call on 0800 IN CONTROL (0800 462 668)
Being vulnerable means that you, or someone in your household, needs power because of age, health or disability and
the loss of electricity is a threat to health or wellbeing. Being vulnerable also includes circumstances where it
is genuinely difficult to pay your power bills because of financial hardship.
Examples of vulnerability include (but are not limited to):
- having refrigerated insulin
- being elderly
- having an infant
- using a medical alarm
- severe financial insecurity
No medical or vulnerability information is collected through this form.
